The article presents the results of a study of the phenomenon of intergenerational coping in the family; a typology based on the criteria of constructive / effective is described. The positive (post-stress growth; the viability of the family; its generic integrity; satisfaction with the relationships; the presence of perceived support) and negative (family disintegration, alienation of family members, escalation of conflicts, dissatisfaction with relationships, addiction, loneliness) effects of intergenerational coping in the family are presented. According to the results of the empirical study (sample size of 571 people) there are correlated types of intergenerational relations and intergenerational coping types. The conditions of formation of coping in the intergenerational relations: family stress; similarity of personality patterns are described.
