The mechanisms of economic cross-temporal comparisons in evaluation of subjective economic well-being of the individual are described. The analysis of self-system comparisons as criteria for well-being evaluation and options for changes in perceived well-being is presented. 128 respondents from different income level groups (lower quartile – US$400, upper quartile – US$1200 of mean monthly income) were questioned. The hypothesis about the leading role of self-comparisons in evaluation of subjective economic well-being, and their mediation by income and parameters of personality self-esteem is proved.

Keywords: subjective economic well-being, social comparison, economic cross-temporal comparison, self-comparison, economic self-evaluation
